NHL announces 2020-21 schedule, Vancouver Canucks to open against Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers will open their 2020-21 season with a game against the Vancouver Canucks on January 13th.
The NHL released their full schedule for the 2020-21 season on Wednesday afternoon and officially showed off their new slate of divisions. According to the schedule, Edmonton is set to play out of the North Division against other six teams from Canada that will feature the certain re-sparking of rivalries.
Totally, Edmonton will play home matches for their first four games of the season. On January 14th, they will be playing Vancouver again before the Montreal Canadians will pay visit for matches on January 16th and 18th.
Edmonton hits the road for four games, including two in Toronto on January 20th and 22nd and two others in Winnipeg on January 24th and 26th.
The 2020-21 season marks the first-ever season with an all-Canadian division. It also marks the 41st year that Edmonton share a division with the Canucks going all the way back to the 1979-80 season when Edmonton took part in the league.
In the last 10 matches against their new division rivals, the Oilers have had the most successful games against Montreal with a 7-2-1 record. Meanwhile, their least success comes against the Calgary Flames for whom the Oilers have gone 3-6-1 in the last 10 games.
This season, Edmonton will also witness the highest percentage of back-to-back games in the league. 12 percent of their matches are in back-to-backs sharing that spot with the San Jose Sharks.
The 2020-21 season will end for Edmonton on May 5th with a game on Friday night against the Calgary Flames on the road.

- North: Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver
- East: Philadelphia, Buffalo, New Jersey, Boston, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh, Washington, New York Rangers
- Central: Chicago, Florida, Columbus, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Nashville, Dallas
- West: Los Angeles, Arizona, Minnesota, Anaheim, Colorado, San Jose, Vegas, St. Louis.
