Julian said the Canadian NHL would be very competitive
Claude Julien said that if NHL were to use the Canadian team in the 2020-21 season, it would be a “very competitive game.”
“First of all, I won’t lie, I will miss playing games in the US. There are also good opponents out there,” the Montreal Canada coach told the NHL @TheRink podcast on Thursday. “You have lost a part of it, but at the same time, as you mentioned, growing up in Canada and becoming an excited Canadian, because it’s different, it’s short-term, maybe just for the if it happens”.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, visitors are not allowed unnecessary travel on the border between Canada and the United States, and it is not known when this restriction will be lifted.
The NHL season will start on January 1, 2021. Teams from Canada will include Canada, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canuks and Winnipeg Jets. Of these teams, only the Senator did not participate in the Stanley Cup qualifiers last season.
“As an active coach, what I value most right now is competitiveness. This is because with a few exceptions, what I want to say is that most teams think they have. competitive and think they should be a playoff team”, Julian said. “If all goes well, it will be a very good fight. There we will all sit down and say: “If that happens, if we end, we are better prepared for this short season. A division in Canada because it would be very competitive”.
Depending on geographic location, the 24 NHL teams in the US can be divided into three divisions.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman (Gary Bettman) said on Wednesday that even when teams can cross the border, isolation problems persist.
“If you want to play regularly, you cannot quarantine players for 14 days when you enter and exit, which is why in other matters that could affect the season we will have to do to tweak and to create the situation, maybe Canadian teams can only play against each other, and we have to adjust the way all of our teams play”.
