Five players the Wild might choose for NHL draft

The Wild is going to have its highest draft pick since 2012 when taking Matt Dumba as a defenseman with the No. 7 overall pick. Here are five players that the Wild might pick for its No. 9.

Anton Lundell, Hifk (Finland), Center

The Wild is searching for a responsible, two-way center like former captain Mikko Koivu for years. That is the kind of well-rounded skill that sets Anton Lundell possesses. He is careful with the puck with a strong hockey IQ making him valuable all over the ice.

Yaroslav Askarov, Neva St. Petersburg (Russia-2), Goalie

Yaroslav Askarov is a Russian goalie, who is two years away from a move to the NHL. And now he is still seen as a likely high draft pick.

Despite the fact it is rare for goalies to get drafted early in the first round, Askarov is an exception – a standout among his peers. He is extremely athletic and boasts quite a pedigree, as well as has earned plenty of international accolades at the same time climbing the ranks in his native Russia impressively.

Alexander Holtz, Djurgarden (Sweden), Right Wing

Alexander Holtz is a versatile forward. He can play both wings. He is also widely known for his shoot-first mentality. It is great that Holtz isn’t short on playmaking skills. He led under-18 players in points in Sweden’s top league last season.

Jack Quinn, Ottawa (Ontario Hockey League), Right Wing

Jack Quinn hyped as arguably the best scorer in the draft thanks to his 52 goals in 62 games – the second-most in the OHL last season. But when it comes to defending, that doesn’t mean that he’s negligent. He has worked in all on-ice situations such as the penalty kill.

Jake Sanderson, USA Hockey National Team Development Program U-18, Defenseman

Jake Sanderson, who has committed to North Dakota, is an efficient skater who is famous for his work ethic and tenacious defending. His father, Geoff, played more than 1,100 games in the history of the NHL.
